Big, dark beaks and comparatively hairless, light-weight-coloured, medial facial places distinguish macaws. Often, the facial patch is smaller sized in a few species and restricted to a yellow patch throughout the eyes as well as a 2nd patch close to the beak base in the Hyacinth Macaw associates.
